Shakespeare plays and sonnets performed using 400-year-old Original Pronunciation.

This video demonstrates why historically informed performance can be so illuminating.  Puns and lewd jokes, hidden in RP, leap out when performed in certain versions of OP.  Rhymes that don’t work in RP, do in OP: love vs. prove, speak vs. break, etc.  The ca. 1600 OP is so rich sounding; I would love to hear a production using it!

THIS IS SO AWESOME.
Especially when you listen to how accents/pronunciation evolves.
Aka like how a British Accent evolved to an American Southern Accent.
“Standard” American English evolved in AAVE (African American Vernacular)
How old Japanese language use during the Tokugawa Era is compared to Modern Japanese

skdfakdljfaackjkk this is so interesting?!?!?

So about a MILLION YEARS ago on my dash, someone was asking for tutorials/advice on moving from digital art to traditional art. And I somehow utterly failed to remember to recommend this book:

Blue and Yellow Don’t Make Green, ISBN-10 0967962870.

This book. This book. THIS. BOOK. I went through a goddamn art degree and I don’t know how many semesters of oil painting before I found this book, and goddamn do I wish I had it then.

It doesn’t just go into basic subtractive color mixing—it goes over the properties and undertones of the most common/useful pigments. Applicable to watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oil, every medium that lists its pigments. It was literally the difference between “WHY ARE MY PURPLES ALL SHITTY GREY” to “WOOT SO BRIGHT AND PRETTY”

YMMV, but it’s only about $20 new, less than that if you get it used. It’s cheaper than the actual paints themselves. AND it means buying less paint in the long run, because who the hell needs hooker’s green when you can mix it yourself.

I was taught this in high school but this can be helpful to the up-an-comin’s…

Oh, superheroes…you sillies.
Hey, did you guys know that super artist Jake Wyatt is doing Marvel fan art for the entire month of March?! Thank your lucky stars, interneters. We’re only a few days into the month, and already there’s THIS, THIS, THIS, and THIS. Request your favorite character—you won’t be sorry (unless you don’t do it, then you will be very, very sorry).
I have this nasty habit of reacting to the exceptional with the absurd. Sorry about that. If you are a true believer, what you should be doing is making your way over to Jake’s Tumblr. If you want to stay for the silly party, then you’re welcome here any time.
